The professional NBA basketball team in New Orleans may change their name from the New Orleans Hornets to the New Orleans Pelicans. We thought it would be fun to see what our community is able to come up with for this new potential NBA brand.

For this contest, anything goes, but we will be looking for a design that would compliment the other current NBA logos (Pictured above).
There are many direction that you can go. Some teams have an actual cartoon character (Celtics, Bulls, Hornets, Raptors), while others have a reference to their geographic location (Nuggets, Warriors, 76ers). Most are 'framed' in one way or another. 20 of the 30 logos also somehow include a basketball in the design. But you don't need to include a basketball.
While this contest is specifically for a logo, feel free to creatively show how it could be used on jerseys or even on a basketball court!
We will be providing plenty of written feedback throughout this contest. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions in the public section of the comments!

UPDATE TO THE BRIEF 12/17:
The images of the Pelican that were uploaded to the brief are general American Pelicans and what people generally think a pelican looks like. For the actual Louisiana State bird, the Brown Pelican, check out these images:
