Modernt Åldrande is an educational program for young entrepreneurs interested in creating innovations that improve the quality of life of the elderly. The non-profit organization ACCESS Health International that works to improve health care worldwide has been given a grant to develop a program called Modern Aging. We want to attract young entrepreneurs (aged 18-30) with ideas that have the potential to increase life quality for the elderly. 20 selected entrepreneurs will get the opportunity to participate in a sponsored educational program where they get to take their idea from vision to reality (including building prototypes and doing pilots). Through the program they will learn both about the business part of being an entrepreneur (writing a business plan, find investors, pitch etc.) as well as about aging, demographic challenges, how today’s elderly differ in lifestyle, demands and preferences compared to previous generations etc and how to accommodate these new needs of elderly. The aim with the program is twofold; both to bring new innovations for the elderly to market as well as inspiring the younger generation to get involved in elderly care by highlighting the opportunities in the sector. We want to transform the whole elderly care sector into something a bit more exciting and forward-thinking and highlight it as a sweet spot for innovation. The entrepreneurs’ ideas can be in social innovation as well as more medical or technical innovation. They can address any issues of being elderly such as immobility, social isolation, loneliness, medication adherence, independence in the home or access to health information. After the 4-month educational program a panel of elderly care experts and angel investors will pick a winner among the innovators who will win start-up capital of USD8,000. The program will run in Sweden, therefore the logo must be in Swedish. Modernt Åldrande means Modern Aging. The design should be recognizable, stand out and be creative. It should feel modern, fun and attract a young target audience without being juvenile. It should make you think about ideas and new thinking.
