Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen (SUB Göttingen)

Goettingen State and University Library has been an innovative University information center since its founding in 1734. Setting standards in the field of library and information services, it contributes to the development of information infrastructures at the University of Göttingen, in the Federal State of Lower Saxony and, on a national level, in Germany. The satisfaction of our patrons from the scholarly community, the economy, and the public determines our actions. We shape the future of a knowledge-oriented society: through cooperation with leading institutions in the information field, by taking on special tasks in archiving and making information available (e.g., as the National Library for the 18th century, in the management of special-subject areas, in the Digitization Center), through cooperation in the solving of central questions of the worldwide networking of information supply with such focal points as standardization, electronic publishing, and knowledge-based development of the internet.

The logo should consist of two parts: a) an aesthetic rendering of the abbreviation "SUB" (capital or lower case letters) adjacent to b) the logotype "Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen" Colors: The use of colors and gradients is limited (see specifications). Typeface: the logotype "Niedersächsische Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Göttingen" (b) must be set in OPTIMA. For the graphic element "SUB" (a) no typeface is specified. No books: Representational elements -- especially books -- are not desirable. The logo should restrain itself to an original rendering oft he letters "SUB" and establish this as a trademark. Supportive graphic elements are possible. Features: Since the logo should not expire before 20 years, its design has to be expressive but timeless. Borrowing too heavily from trendy Web2.0 designs should be avoided. Specifications: At least two variants have to be designed: 1) a letterhead version (dark on white paper, see sample at http://tinyurl.com/kvh4wn). Alignment (left, right) and font size may vary. 2) a web version for the website of Göttingen State and University Library (to be relaunched in January 2009) -- white or gray on dark blue (see sample at http://tinyurl.com/nhn9e9).
