orgesi got their new web page design by running a design contest:

Community & Non-Profit
We are a charity focused on food, education and medication for the world's poorest kids.
We want a bold, parallax (scrolling), rebel looking website that is interactive and responsive. See charitywater.org for insight. It will be wordpress backed. We have a lot of images and videos of Haiti and our kids to help with design. We are a different kind of charity and we want a website that symbolizes that. The work we are doing in Haiti is real. And we want a website that portrays what we do in Haiti. What we currently have, for lack of a better word, sucks. We love cool typography and we would like that showcased in our website. We would like to incorporate our current colors (blue and yellow), which are the colors of our logo and new school in Haiti.
*** Please see general comment in the comments section for updates to this brief. Here is a summary of the different menu links and scrolls in the website: The website should be a parallax/scroll that starts with a video and continues with different page scrolls. See the document that speaks specifically about all the different sections. Please keep in mind that as you flow through the website, it should be like flowing into a story, where the titles of the different sections are not common things like About and Impact and Gallery, but things like "we go to the poorest of countries, find the poorest of children and give them life." The words in the page should be text based because we want to be able to change them if things change. This is important. ==== Menu Donate | About | Impact | Stories | Pledge | Gallery | Blog ***Please make the menu so that there is a second tier down from the first, like charitywater.org. We do not know yet what we will put in there, but it is never late to request it. === First screen When you first come to the page, it should be a big video with a play button and menu in the left upper hand. The slogan in the middle of the screen should be "rise above the status quo". Kind of like charitywater.org and really like fiftyandfifty.org (but with a video). I LOVE fiftyandfifty design. If you can make it cooler than that, it'd be lovely. And our logo of course. The video we will provide. It is a fantastic video of our manifesto and work in the field. == About section This goes to the second section (after the first which is a video). This section should describe what we do. The title should be in a cool font and it is NOT "ABOUT". It should be the words: we go to the poorest countries, find the poorest kids, and give them life. Then right below this title phrase, have a 3 page slider that says: So, we went into post-quake Haiti and set up a school (slide 1 with pic of our school) Searched the homeless and found the 50 most malnourished toddlers (slide 2 with pic of homeless) And started giving them three meals a day, essential medical help, and an education. (slide 3 pic of kids inside the school learning) Ideally, these slides should be associated with cool pictures of the kids and our school. The fonts should be interesting too and maybe at different places on the screen. == General Feedback and some changes (after the learning that took place in this contest): The fonts are not big or bold enough in general. Use caps at times as this helps. Also, clean crisp looks are helpful too. Think more space, simple, big, bold. Menu should be a bold look (all caps) and have the ability to follow at the top of each screen (this might be coding not sure). Our Impact This section will break in half and it should now just display the stats with some cool, sleek bold icons (please keep in mind these numbers will be scrolling and updated in real-time), 100,000 meals served 1 new school built 52 children saved 104 medical checkups 124,000 hours of education 52 better fed families 11,000 hrs of board member volunteer work 0 board members paid $32,571 board member money donated 100% of public donations go to the kids 9 unemployed Haitians given full or part-time jobs 100% transparency about where your money goes === The wall of pics of people that was part of the Impact section will now be below the Our Impact section and will be called: Our Stories Subtitle: We believe ordinary people do extraordinary things This section should be a wall of bold, sleek pictures (think touchdesign.pl, but different structure since gallery should have that look) or a horizontal scrolling of them (asymmetric would be cool) and when you hover or click over it, a popup of the story of that person comes up in the middle. It should also have side navigation buttons to go from one story to the next). The popup (or scroll) should have picture and text. Make sure to account for other stories that will be added so there is a way to get to them through scrolling or other means. At the bottom of this section there should be 3 buttons that say: Tell Your Story, and Join with Facebook, Do Something Extraordinary === TAKE OUT WHY R2S SECTION Please take out the Why Rise2Shine Section (does not seem to come across well). The docs could be added as links in the footer that correspond to the income statement, 501c3 status and irs tax return filing (like charitywater.org) === TAKE OUT THE TEAM SECTION (but replace) Please take out the team section (as this has been hard to get it just right). Replace it with this quote and a cool background like fiftyandfifty.org: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead === Gallery Section Make it like touchdesign.pl (but smaller) as noted in the previous general comment. === Pledge Section Make this big and bold and have the whole pledge on the screen. === Footer <p style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">This should be like charitywater.org or red.org. Please make sure to include things like 501c3, irs and income statement doc links as well as other links to blogs etc. Charity: Water has a good range of the links we need. Thank you. Thank you. === Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or anything doesn't make sense. Thanks again. I appreciate all your work and I think we will make something amazing.
What to avoid
Bad, conventional design. If you want to make something different, amazing, this is the place. But I am a firm believer in bold, simple design philosophy. Check out http://www.fiftyandfifty.org/ to see more of what I like. But I'm sure I will let you know as the project progresses.
If some of the current colors could be incorporated, it would be great.
