Davidman got their new web page design by running a design contest:
Help NextRead with a new website design

Entertainment & The Arts
Our website makes it easier for users to find their next book to read using a combination of social information (i.e., what their friends are reading or like to read) and recommendations from friends.
We would like to use the logo that is currently on the site and we like the colors that are in that logo (orange and blue). We prefer a light background and we want the book covers to stand out. In some ways, we want a user to get the same good feeling from being on our site that you get from being in a good neighborhood bookstore. Key Notes: 1. The pages should be *responsive* so that they will adjust depending on the size of the screen that the user is accessing the site from (i.e., it will be the same pages if a user is accessing from a mobile phone or Tablet) and this should be considered. 2. Text must use browser fonts only. No web fonts, please. 3. Designs should be sure to take into account how social data (likes or recommendations from friends) should be displayed.
There are 2 pages that we need to have designed and both have a current version that is live on the web. The current version hasn't been visually designed but the UI is the basic UI for the site. You will need to sign into FB to see them. 1. Home Page/Recommendation Page - This is the top level page of NextRead. From this page a user can make a recommendation to one of their friends and also see the books that have been liked by their friends. The main actions that a user takes from this page are to recommend a book to a friend. When a user mouses over a book cover there are three actions a user can take: (1) recommend that book to a friend (via FB dialog) (2) get more information (including all social information) about the book on Nextreads and (3) go to the page for that book on Amazon to buy or for additional info. The designs need to include the view when a user mouses over a book cover. Note that this page also needs to display which of your friends have liked the books on the page. You can see the current version at http://www.nextread.me. 2. Book Page. This is the page with information about a specific book. This is the page that a user will land on when they receive a recommendation from a friend. A current example is here: http://www.nextread.me/books/50 From this page, a user can indicate whether they are likely to read a book and whether the user has already read it. The user can also change their rating from this page, go to Amazon for more information and also recommend it to a friend. There will also be some information about the book on this page like author, year published, number of pages, description. Both of these pages should primarily be displaying books (just like most pages on Netflix display movies) but with the key functionality relatively easy to find and use.
What to avoid
Again, must use browser fonts only. No web fonts, please.
I think that covers everything. Again, any effort that can be made to show us how the design will adjust to smaller size screens (4" and 7") in addition to a desktop screen will be appreciated.
