Who are we? Itus Networks is a young startup. We were founded in March 2014 and consist of a two-person team: Daniel and Jock. What do we do? We protect consumers and their connected devices from all Internet threats with a reliable, simple and affordable solution. What is our business? Our business is a product called the iGuardian. iGuardian is a simple device that secures your home Internet. It protects all consumer devices (wired or wireless) from viruses, botnets, undesirable content etc. Here’s a quick video overview: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9dsi_tSbPDcdERSUzJCWWtzdjA/edit?usp=sharing Who are our competitors? We have four main competitors: a) Antivirus software b) Routers w/ built-in security c) Firewalls d) 'Do nothing' Why are we different than our competitors? a) Anti-virus (AV): AV software is hosted on the computers it is supposed to protect. AV software slows down the computers it is supposed to protect and impacts their performance. AV software protects computers only when a threat has already reached the computer. The threat then needs to be removed/quarantined. b) Routers: home routers from D-Link, Linksys, Netgear and others that are available to consumers rely on outdated technology and don’t protect against a large number of sophisticated attacks used by hackers today c) Firewalls: many firewalls available from Cisco, Zyxel, Dell SonicWALL, WatchGuard, Barracuda and others can offer solid protection. The problem is - they’re too expensive to buy (~$200 and up), - they require expensive annual contracts to stay updated and able to protect (~$160 and up/year) - they require extensive technical expertise because they are complicated to configure, and won’t protect if not configured correctly d) “Do nothing”: almost every day, another data breach becomes public. Whether it’s eBay, Yahoo, Heartbleed, Cryptolocker or something else. Despite an almost daily deluge of articles about new threats, many consumers don’t believe they are vulnerable and/or they don’t believe losing their data would matter, even if they were hacked. That is not true at all. Malware infections can be extremely painful, as you stand to lose personal data, passwords, pictures, documents, and more. Someone might even take over your personal social media or financial accounts. Aside from the headache of losing that data, repairing the damage can easily take weeks or months. What makes Itus/iGuardian different? Three things… 1) Simple: iGuardian is designed for home Internet users: our typical customers include families, elderly, students etc. In short: everyone who just wants to have peace of mind when using the Internet, but who doesn't want to deal with complex configuration, technical details or costly business-solutions. 2) Affordable: iGuardian costs ~$129 and offers comprehensive and affordable protection at prices. This pricing for the device is approximately half of the currently least expensive firewall. Itus customers receive lifetime access to free community security updates. 3) Comprehensive: iGuardian sits at the "source" and is plugged in right where the Internet enters the home to protect all devices that connect to the home network: phones, laptops, desktops, tablets. What's more, iGuardian protects all other wired devices that are not computers, but still access the Internet such as: TVs, cable boxes, security camera systems, smoke detectors, thermostats, refrigerators etc. What are our company values? We want to make secure Internet available for everyone. What’s your company boilerplate? 1) Short: Best-in-class threat protection for home Internet connection at affordable prices. We block cyber attacks, malware and content. Zero configuration required. 2) Long: Itus Networks brings families best-in-class threat prevention for their home Internet connection at affordable prices. Our network security systems are specially designed to block cyber attacks while filtering out malware and other undesirable content. 5-Minute installation and zero configuration or technical knowledge required. At Itus Networks, we believe all families deserve peace of mind that the devices connected to their home network are secure and protected 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Who are your customers and prospects? Everyone with household income over $100k and a high-speed Internet connection faster than 6Mbps = ~20M consumers in the US What words would you use to describe your company? Secure, Trustworthy, Friendly, Easy, Affordable, Quick, Innovative, Nimble, Scrappy, Self-deprecating Why do we need a new website / what’s the purpose of the website? We want to make noise and be able to show to our customers how they can easily protect their home Internet and network. We will only sell our product through the website for now, so it is our only sales channel and the website needs to help us drive sales. IMPORTANT: In the weeks from July 14 - August 15, we will run a Kickstarter campaign to sell products and raise funding for our expansion. The website needs to point visitors to the Kickstarter campaign and help drive visitors there.
What other websites do you like? Some general examples: http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/34006/15-Examples-of-Brilliant-Homepage-Design.aspx. See in particular examples 1,2,3,4,7,8,9,13 General style – agree with the following points: http://www.sitepoint.com/top-website-design-trends-implement-2014/ We like sites that are very clear and very clean. Zero fluff. Modern, but not cold. Direct engagement and call to action to the customer (possibly lead form or similar on homepage?). Bold colors. We’re open to non-traditional designs/approaches however please also design with ease of implementation and mobiles in mind. Specific examples of pages we like: - http://www.sporchargers.com - www.carbonite.com - http://www.smashwearables.com - http://www.pomodrone.com - http://adayinbigdata.com - http://www.choosemuse.com - http://badassprogrammers.com/index.php - http://zenlet.co (like the scrolling, but much too long!) What do you want your customer to do with the site? From 7/15-8/15: directly go to our Kickstarter page and back us. After 8/15: immediately buy iGuardian and tell everyone they know to get one. What about maintenance of the site? We would like to be able to maintain and update the site ourselves. We don’t want to have to become experts in website coding. Our preference would be to set the page up via WordPress with an attractive but not pricey theme. We want to use the "pages" function to build all of our pages and use the tool more like a CMS then a Blog engine. We’re considering Dreamhost, but are open to other suggestions.
What pages do you want and how many? We believe we need the following: - Homescreen/Homepage & Problem Description - i.e. why do I need a home Internet security system? Purpose of this page is to very briefly introduce Itus, iGuardian and the concept of home Internet security we provide. Page should explain that network security technology is what the world’s largest enterprises use to protect their networks but is far too expensive and complex for most people. Needs to convey how important it is for consumers to have their home networks protected. Also, how our product achieves this security and how it helps the consumer (i.e. set it up once, don’t configure it and simply forget about it b/c you know you’re protected). The page should also direct visitors immediately to our Kickstarter campaign page and ask them to back our project. - Company Overview/About Us. Purpose of this page is to give an overview of our company, tell the story of why we came up with the idea for Itus/iGuardian, tell what problem we want to solve and why that’s important to us; the page should also introduce the two people behind Itus, Daniel and Jock - Product overview. This page should give a high-level overview about our current product, iGuardian, what it does and why this kind of protection matters to consumers. The page should also give room for us to explain the technical background of iGuardian, the concept on which it builds, how the product works, how protection works, what it protects against and what a customer can expect from iGuardian. Later, this page will also give an overview about additional products we will develop. - eCommerce/Buy Here (create now and to be added as a live page after Kickstarter). Once live (after Kickstarter, this page will be our only online/retail channel to sell the product. It needs to show the product, available pricing options, ask visitors of the site to buy and provide ecommerce/ordering functionality. Maybe build out this page and infrastructure and have a link on this page that says ‘order today’ sending people to KS for now? After Kickstarter is complete, it could switch to an online-order form? ----- Do you want all pages to have the same template? Probably, but we’ll leave that up to you! We’re looking for creativity and guidance. How much content is there and when/by whom will it be written? Content is currently being developed by us Do you want to gain subscribers? (RSS or newsletter) For now, we don’t have a newsletter/RSS, but would be good to have the concept consider this as an addition in 12 months How do you advertise at the moment? Currently, no advertising. We exhibit at tradeshows, we distribute flyers, we will likely run small online ad campaigns on Twitter/FB/LinkedIn/YouTube. Do you require certain social integration with your networks? (Flickr, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook etc.) Yes: Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube We will have occasional video that we would like to feature either on the homepage or on the product page Do you have any color palette / font preferences? No color palette, but please select colors that go well with our company logo Font preference: The font used for our company logo is Neogray. Font for the page should be not too techie – we want to appeal to consumers and people that have limited technical understanding or don’t care to understand the technical intricacies and ‘just want this to work’. Our font and the whole page needs to reflect this thinking. Clean font that expresses we’re a security company. We like Helvetica Neue Light, but are very open to alternatives. Do you have any text / copy / graphics for the site ready to go? None. Working on the copy. No graphics other than the logo. We have an explainer video (see: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9dsi_tSbPDcdERSUzJCWWtzdjA/edit?usp=sharing Do you require a site search facility? Nice to have, but not mandatory Do you require a Googlemap? No Do you require an online form? Yes, so people can contact us/learn more and order (ecommerce page) Would you like email hosting? No
Anything else the designers should know? We want to be able to maintain the site ourselves, if necessary. The design needs to work seamlessly and without complications with Wordpress. Design needs to allow for as much functionality as necessary (e.g. ecommerce, social media integration, updates, video integration). If there are features you consider contemporary/cool and worth adding, please let us know – we’d like to learn and possibly include. That said, we don’t want to make things unnecessarily complex. Keep is simple, clean, straightforward. Website should look good on laptop/desktop and mobile.
