It lacks design and aesthetics but generally makes sense. http://www.npg.org.uk:8080/irvingpenn/index.htm - color and format here are very appealing. http://www.luchetti.com/ - this might be too formal, but the centering is nice and very clean. http://www.rafalicious.com/ - like it for it's simplicity. Colors are also excellent, but typeface could be a bit more professional. Lighter background preferred to darker one (as in the first website).

Page should be very simple and clear. Little scrolling involved. Must look professional, but not too business-like. This is for an individual to display his research and highlight his work - not a hokey law firm or corporate page. Access and clarity is paramount. Site will be all one page with links opening up new information. Main areas are recent publications, research in progress, recent lectures, and CV/background information. As well as contact information. There should be a photo of Laurence (getting headshots currently), but not sure if many other graphics are necessary (except, perhaps, images of the books).
