We are an online retail plant nursery. Our target audience are home gardeners
We, obviously, want the visual style to reflect the nature of our product range. Whilst we have some fairly definite goals and ideas we are very much open to creative interpretation of this brief so please feel free to submit any ideas for functionality that you think might be "cool" We grow the plants and have a vast amount of product knowledge which we like to carry through where possible. We pay attention to details like packaging, keeping the customer informed of their order status etc. We want the site to present us as a knowledgeable retailer with a deep insight into our product range as opposed to simply a place where customers can buy products. We would like to have an interactive functional main carousel which we'll use to present an image of particular types of garden replete with information on each plant in the photos etc. This element would need to be the hero of the home page so please allow for a style and colour scheme that would not clash with the main function. Specifically this function needs to allow us to allow users to click on any plant in the image to view more info and buy now links for the plant. thus, there needs to be an allowance for the following elements; Indicators/hot spots to show that plants can be click A space to show the extra information about the plants Some sort of way of allowing users to browse through various preloaded gardens/landscapes to view more of these interactive images
We want a home page design. It needs to incorporate every element on the current home page that currently sits above the main image. We feel like the various devices and pieces of information could be given better clarity so please give these due attention. Underneath is where we want the main carousel. This carousels will feature images of gardens with each plant annotated so customers can click to view more info about the various plants used to achieve the garden. We plan to have multiple gardens so would like the carousel to show previews (perhaps faded) of the previous and next items. The plants will need to have an obvious "button" to show that more info can be viewed upon clicking/tapping but these buttons need to not obscure the image. Also on the home page we want to address those customers who aren't so much "window shopping". Thus we want to clearly advise them of the logistics of the process by showing them how we package our products for dispatch and delivery, show info about the maturity of the plants as they leave our location and also focus on our satisfaction guarantee whereby we will happily replace plants if they are damaged or otherwise delivered in an unsatisfactory manner. We also need the product page designed. Our stats tell us that there is a lot of activity on the related products section so we'd like to retain this, as well as pretty much every other element on the page/ The "product details" plant meta data is important but would work just as well if it required a single click (tab, pop up etc). We would like to keep the "Read more about [PRODUCT NAME] as this links back to related blog articles that provide useful insights and know how about the specific products. Finally, we want the category pages redesign. There is less on these pages but they're an important part of the engagement process so we'd like to get some creative ideas on these pages. Of course, we'd like to get whatever creative input we can on any elements or pages.
What to avoid
Please don't use templates. We're a development agency and we know templates back to front - we want creative and original work only please.
We want this site to wow customers with a focus on the quality of the imagery and visual presentation couple with a strong focus on functional usability. We want it to be deeply engaging (hence the concept for the annotated carousel) but also be very easy to use and work with. There are a number of customisations on the existing site (the free delivery calculation routine, the plant height filtering etc) which are aimed at bringing a unique and useful customer experience into play. Anything you can think of to further enhance this part of the process would be greatly appreciated.
