Tom.kerrigan got their new app design by running a design contest:
Roaming Trek needs a new mobile app design
Check out Tom.kerrigan's App design contest…
I make apps (mostly games) for the iPhone and iPad. My most popular app is a chess game that was featured in an iPad commercial but I make several others too.
What's your vision?
I am mostly done with a simple word game, as you can see from the screen shots I'm attaching. You have probably seen this sort of game before--you try to find words in a grid of 4x4 random letters. I would like the design of the app to look more "designed." It can definitely go in a different direction than what I have now. The target audience is probably mostly women. Please don't make the theme especially feminine but avoid steel-and-robots or whatever. I prefer simple designs but it doesn't have to be as simple as what I have now. Ultimately the end result needs to be a bunch of PNG files that are high-resolution, for the iPhone and iPad's Retina Displays. I have been calling the game "Word Game" obviously, but the name will change later, so please be aware that anything you do with the text "Word Game" or initials "WG" will need to be revised later. I'm pretty sure the final name will be "Word (Something)" though, so the design of the logo/icon won't have to change completely. Since many people have asked me which design direction I want to go in, I will say that I don't know, but I do have some general categories that I like: - Web 2.0 style (check out Tumblr, or 99designs, or many other sites) - "Windows Vista" style - iOS style - Cartoon style, like Flight Control - A themed style that has to do with words (since it's a word game) -- this means typewriter, books, or "doodle style" (like Doodle Jump) - My current style (blue with rounded white elements) except spruced up... maybe with some gradients, reflections, etc. I am not opposed to themes but some seem out of place for a word game. For example, I have rejected two different wood themes because wood just seems out of place to me for a word game. Why wood?
This is my first project that I'm submitting to 99designs and I'm very excited about it!

It all began with a design brief.
A quick, interactive guide helped them understand their design style and captured exactly what they needed in their app design.
Designers across the globe delivered design magic.
Tom.kerrigan collaborated with designers to refine their ideas
When design entries come in, you can rate them so designers know what you’re looking for in your logo design.
99designs has great collaboration tools so you can pinpoint and capture your ideas
And then… they selected a winner!
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
We think contests are a super fun way to get design.
