bluejackal06 got their new app design by running a design contest:
Create an elegant app design for viewing receipts
Check out bluejackal06's App design contest…
StashR is a mobile app to store and organize receipts. The app is a convenience when users want to return items and/or use receipts for accounting. When users sign up for StashR, they get a custom email address that they could use to receive receipts from stores or they could use a picture of the receipt taken using the phone's camera.
I would like to see the design use Material Design principles. https://www.google.com/design/spec/material-design/introduction.html https://www.google.com/design/spec/style/color.html# https://www.google.com/design/spec/resources/color-palettes.html Please see attached logo. The logo looks better on a dark background. I would like the app to be visually pleasing and have a clean uncluttered look. The app needs to present important data, but also needs to be elegant.
On first install, the user sees the Welcome screen and can choose to sign up. Once they sign up, user gets his own email address. This is key and see note below. Once signed up and logged in, the Home screen is shown which lists the receipts. From the Home screen, the user can choose to view a receipt or search the list. Details below. Note about email: A User’s StashR email address should be easily accessible and if possible visible all the time or called upon to view with minimal effort. (button press, swipe etc). NOTE: This is not a screen, but just information that needs to be readily available. Welcome screen This is the screen where the user is shown how to use the app. It's a wizard. This is shown until the user signs up and can be skipped, so user could go directly to the sign up page. There are 3 steps, 1. Sign up for StashR and get your StashR email address. 2. Use the StashR email when receiving email receipts from stores or online merchants. You can also forward your existing receipts to your StashR email address. 3. StashR stores your receipts and no more digging through your inbox. Each step includes the respective text noted above with Next button and the last step has the “Sign Up” button. If each step could also include some catchy icon, that would be great too. Home Screen (or List receipts) This screen could be empty with no receipts. I would prefer to have some icon/text there instead of a just an empty screen with background color. This screen also contains a floating action button, that opens the camera to take a picture of the receipt and submit for processing. a. Each receipt in the list should show 1. Store Name. 2. Thumbnail of store logo or default image. 3. Total 4. Date and Time. 5. Potentially, a gist or image of the receipt. The thumbnail may not always be available and the design should support a default image. b. The list can be sorted by date, store name and total and the screen should include controls to do that. c. When its sorted by store, i prefer to have (A-Z) listed so user can tap on the alphabet to get to the store. Eg. Contacts app, Albums tab in Play Music app. d. Receipt can be deleted. Prefer swipe to delete, but a button is fine too. Search Receipts a. There should be a way to search for receipts from the Home screen. b. Search results include the following 1. Store Name. 2. Store image (logo) or default image. 3. Total 4. Date and Time. View Receipt This is the most important screen and it’s the app’s opportunity to wow the user. Receipt is typically boring to see even though the data in it is important. One of the goals of the app is to present this data in a visually pleasing representation and yet include all the important information. This is the screen where i want to see your creativity. The screen should include the following information from the receipt, a. Store purchased with address (possible map view) and phone number (click to call). b. List of items with price and tax. Tax is optional. c. Total d. Return by date, if available. In this field, i need a way to show a disclaimer message alerting the user that this date is based on data in the receipt and may not be accurate. Its almost like "use it at your own risk message". e. Return policy, if available. This could be large text and may need to be opened in a new screen. f. Link to a screen which shows the actual receipt. (Receipts are received by the app as email) A sample receipt is attached.
What to avoid
Web like user interface. I want the app to feel like a mobile app not a web application.
