daniel EX got their new merchandise by running a design contest:
Gourmet burger shop in Hamburg needs a graphic-illustrative cool, casual & quirky design for their team.
Check out daniel EX's Merchandise contest…
Otto’s Burger is a tiny family-run German restaurant chain offering a casual dining service with a focus on hamburgers. It started life in 2013 as a pop-up in Hamburg, bringing 'gourmet burgers' to northern Germany using brioche buns and homemade sauces. Having seen the burger boom in London, we felt it was high time that Hamburg, too, had a hamburger to be proud of. We therefore gave our restaurant the name Otto’s Burger after Otto Kuase, considered by some to be the creator of the hamburger in Hamburg, Germany. In 1891, he was celebrated for a sandwich made with a beef patty cooked in butter, topped with a fried egg. The German sailors brought the recipe to the United States, where the egg was dropped. Thus, the word “Hamburger” is derived from the city “Hamburg.” We focus on good quality meat and classic adornments, but, with a twist. For example, our red onions are brined and our homemade mayo has a smoky taste. But it’s not only our sauces which are homemade. Our lemonades are also handmade by us and we have our own beers, which complement our extensive range of other German and foreign craft beers. We source good beef from local farms we know and trust. We prefer to cook our burgers medium so it’s pink, juicy and succulent. We place it in a soft, squishy brioche bun (which are made according to our recipe and just for us) with minimum fuss and fanfare. We serve it with a smile in comfortable environment which we still design ourselves. Our tag line: Hamburger's home Hamburgers from Hamburg
What's your vision?
We are looking for an illustration/ concept that will carry across our T-shirts, baseball caps, hoodies and stickers as merchandise for our staff to wear to work and for guests to purchase. The merchandise should therefore be cool and casual without looking like a uniform or too much like advertising. IDEAS: We'd either like to make reference to: 1. Hamburg as the home of burger (1) and Otto (for further information see the company description in the box above) as the inventor (2) - or year of inventions (1891). OR 2. use typical burger references such as - 'bring home the bacon', - 'I'm well done', - 'say cheese' or something else like... - 'if it involves burger, fries or craft beer, count me in'. However, the design doesn't necessarily need any words or quotes at all. We're fairly open to ideas. For the quoted price we're looking to take c.3 different designs from the winning designer that all work in harmony.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR: We're looking for longevity and unpretentious 'coolness' and I have attached examples of t-shirts we like. We like neon signs for our restaurant interior and outside signage (see files below). I have also attached some examples of our current CI design. Colours and style elements can be, but don't have to be, incorporated into the t-shirt design. Our CORPORATE IDENTITY is that.... we don't really have one. Thus all our shops have different interiors and the outside sign is always different. We therefore don't mind having different looks, fonts and styles. The various designs should work on different colour backgrounds (grey, white, black and blue) and on different merchandise- caps, stickers and t-shirts/hoodies. ATTACHMENTS: These are things we like. These are things that are already in operation with OTTO's. Be playful, be cool, be creative ! :-)
