The most natural way to learn a language is the way toddlers learn. Before you understood sentence structure or grammar, you learned the most basic building blocks of a language: words. The way to make words "real" in your mind is by associating them with images and sounds. That's the approach we take with Yembi.
The Yembi Method works by engaging 3 different parts of your brain: the language center, the visual cortex, and the auditory system of the temporal lobe. The more areas you exersize while learning, the faster you learn.
First, a picture is flashed on the screen with the text of what the image represents in your native language (English). A voice says the word in English and gives you a chance to say the word aloud in Spanish if you know it.
After a short period, the spanish text of the word is displayed on the bottom of the screen along with a native spanish speaker saying and repeating that word. Then it's on to the next random image and the process repeats.
This simple and powerful method has been used since even before computers were invented with printed cardboard flash cards. It's lasted for generations for one simple reason: because it really works!
This is a program that will be available in 34 languages; so it has to convey the message universally and without relying on words.
A globe or a brain might be a good start - but we're really open to anything that good. The word Yembi or a Y may be incorporated into the design.
