Community & Non-Profit
Founded over 150 years ago, HCSF is a club for Harvard alumni in the San Francisco Bay Area. It offers a wide variety of activities that include community service of all kinds, regular socializing and networking, academic lectures, cultural events, and opportunities to discover the greater San Francisco area. Membership is limited to Harvard alumni, but almost all of our events are open to the community at large.
HCSF Logo: Creative Brief The current HCSF logo is a combination of the Harvard “Veritas” shield and the HCSF name. The color is crimson, which is Harvard’s official color. (See the end of this brief for a picture of the logo.) The logo was designed before the rise of digital marketing and social media, and it is not ideally suited for these channels. Especially on mobile, the logo is illegible, and thus hinders brand recognition. Because digital channels are the primary way that we market our events and share news, the HCSF board of directors would like to explore a new design that is more suited for digital. Target audiences: Our primary audience is Harvard alumni in the San Francisco Bay Area, who may or may not be actual members of HCSF. A secondary target is non-Harvard alumni, who are welcome to attend (almost all of) our events. Our audience varies widely in terms of age (20-90), occupation, and other demographic characteristics. Audience insight: Our primary audience (Harvard alumni) seeks a connection with other Harvard alumni, and they are likely to attend alumni events if they are aware of them and if the events seem relevant to them (e.g., will be attended by other alumni with interests similar to theirs, are offered by an organization that they feel they could be a part of). Desired behavior: Engage with HCSF -- especially by registering for our events. Look and feel for the new logo: A clear, simple logo that is more legible and recognizable on small screens than our current logo is the primary objective. Mandatories: Use of Harvard Crimson as primary color (see https://identityguide.hms.harvard.edu/color for color specs). This same site shows additional palette colors that may be considered if needed. Convey the “San Francisco” part of The Harvard Club of San Francisco. There are hundreds of Harvard Clubs around the world; there is only one in San Francisco. Deliverables: original design file in, as well as PNG and JPG format.
