Conceptually, infrastructure as code is the practice of describing infrastructure resources and their configuration as software code, enabling "the reconstruction of [a] business from nothing but a source code repository, an application data backup, and bare metal resources" (-Jesse Robbins). Infrastructure as code (IaC) enables you to manage your physical or virtual infrastructure the same way you would a typical software project (e.g. with test driven development workflows), and derives many benefits - such as making your infrastructure inherently self documenting. "Infrastructure As Code I/O" (this project) is a brand new tech conference debuting in September 2015, which aims to bring operations engineers (sometimes called "devops"), software developers, systems administrators and technical operations managers together to discuss the future of their craft. The target audience for this conference are dependent on the very latest, bleeding edge technology and rely heavily on sharing solutions in the form of open source software projects and open community discussions with industry peers. These are the people who keep Google.com running, keep Etsy.com online during the holiday rush, and keep services like Netflix online no matter how many thousands of new subscribers sign up and use the service every day. The conference will be run by a leader in this field - Heavy Water Operations - who will be inviting speakers and an audience to ask and answer the question: what is IaC? It is our belief that there is more to IaC than just using configuration management tools like Puppet (http://puppetlabs.com) or Chef (http://chef.io), or container-based solutions like Docker (https://www.docker.com/), or infrastructure as a service providers such as Amazon Web Services (http://aws.amazon.com/). The working theme for the conference is "An interchange of ideas about the future of Infrastructure as Code". It is our intent to create a platform for the abovementioned practitioners to discuss the current state of the art, and how we can collectively improve it.
