How Raul Mujica started their logo design journey
KinKast is a new consumer video experience capitalizing on the desire for privacy. YouTube and Facebook are great public sites. KinKast is designed to be private and super easy.
• Sharing videos without connecting a camera, picking files or waiting for uploads.
• Accidentally building a library of personal memories.
• Being spoon fed your life's best moments.
• Watching last year's videos in 5 minutes.
We have a beta version of the website at http://www.kinkast.com. We are adding an iPhone app and changing the business model. The website will be redesigned after the logo.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
KinKast's target customers are parents (in their 30's or 40's with newborn to 10 year old children) and 20-something singles. They are internet savvy and have high household incomes (> $100,000).
The logo should be friendly, fun and trustworthy. It should have high production values. Should not be confused for something childish. Simple and abstract designs are preferred since it will be small. Hootsuite.com is an example of a good logo with a mascot. Love that the mascot is simple yet looks great. Their use of a few colors and no gradients in the mascot are great. The spotlight/shadow treatment on the whole logo also is excellent. The owl image is attached. Also attached is an anime sea otter. It is also very good. Though this otter is too baby-ish for KinKast, love how it's simple yet effective. Less detail can be better. The browns in this anime otter might work well with the text orange.
The new logo won't need a tagline. (Though we may have future treatments like t-shirts that may need one later so please keep that in mind.)
We'll provide the text part of the logo. Feel free to re-use it or change the font to make it better. We do want to keep the orange (FF7319). The new website will likely have a light/white background and feature orange as the main color with grey and maybe blue accents.
All artwork should be original (no clip art) and vector-based. We'll need the AI and/or Photoshop files for the mascot part of the logo as well as for the complete logo. If the vector art can be done in Fireworks that would be a bonus (not sure if it's possible). We'll be viewing the artwork on a MacBook Pro so keep that in mind -- graphics/colors usually look brighter (and nicer) on Macs than on Windows computers.
