~~WHO AND WHAT WE ARE Waistcoat & Watch is an ONLINE ARTS COMMUNITY, where professional artists and art-lovers connect - and explore the world of art and creativity. Our tagline, which does NOT need to be incorporated into the logo is: "Explore art, and your own creativity, through the power of community." The Waistcoat & Watch website has as its focus our blog (multi-author - written articles, as well as audio & video), a forum, and a marketplace. In our forum, our main sections are 'Explorations into Art,' where everyone participates equally posting topics and discussions surrounding anything and everything art-related, and 'Waistcoat & Watch Guide Series,' where our professional/established artists (the Guides) create and run interactive series, in which they support their audience in exploring their OWN creativity (e.g., a writer running a series to support/guide people in writing their own short stories). The name 'Waistcoat & Watch' comes from the Alice in Wonderland stories - just as 'the rabbit with waistcoat and watch' was Alice's introduction and guide down the rabbit hole, so is 'Waistcoat & Watch' a guide into the world of art - you do your own exploring and creating, we just help you get there/support you along the way. Our guiding philosophy can be summed up in 3 ideas: 1) if you love art, you ARE an artist; 2) exploring creative expression is a valuable and enlightening experience for everyone - whether it's as a hobby, or career; 3) an artist-in-service is one who supports OTHERS in exploring creativity and expression-through-art. ~~WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR~~ Two slightly different designs/orientations: 1) A logo combining a W&W image (see below) and the words 'Waistcoat & Watch' - the primary use of this will be in the header of our website (www.waistcoatandwatch.com). 2) An image representing the words "Waistcoat & Watch" - this will be used primarily in social media profiles (Facebook mostly), and as such will need to be OPTIMIZED TO FIT WITHIN A SQUARE (think Facebook page picture, recognizable down to 32x32 pixels). NOTE: the logo-with-name (1) could just be the image-logo (2) with the appropriately stylized words 'Waistcoat & Watch' added. The image part of (1) and (2) need not be the exact same, but they can be - and the two image aspects DO need to be recognizably similar. ~~WHAT WE IMAGINE IT LOOKING LIKE~~ ~IMAGE: It might sound silly, but we're going for name-recognition-through-imagery: we're thinking a pocket-watch wearing a waistcoat. We're looking for a modern-looking, 'Web 2.0' (I know that doesn't really mean anything, but I think it will give you an idea) type of look. The Safari logo is VERY close to what we're imagining - just a pocket-watch instead of a compass, and 'wearing' a simple waistcoat. We have the following in mind, but are particularly open to your artistic discretion here: [We're imagining the pocket-watch having a gold rim/case - so mostly yellow/gold, black, and white; we're imagining a black or dark grey waistcoat, with light pinstripes.] ~IMAGE-WITH-TEXT: Probably the exact above image, with the stylized words 'Waistcoat & Watch' added also. We think it might be best to complement the modern look of the image with a more classic/retro text component. We're very open, though, to how you think best to combine the above image with text. ~~WHY WE'RE LOOKING FOR A NEW LOGO~~ We've realized that we're currently struggling with name-recognition and name-retention - people just don't easily remember the words/name "Waistcoat & Watch" We want a simple, recognizable, and memorable logo that reinforces and clearly evokes the name "Waistcoat & Watch" (again, which is why we're looking for the simple image of a pocket-watch wearing a waistcoat!). ~~WE ARE OPEN TO YOUR IDEAS!~~ We've tried to be as specific as possible in this brief, so that you have a clear idea of what we're looking for. BUT we do realize that YOU are the graphic-design/logo expert - not us! So, we are very open to your ideas/inspiration. Just remember - what's most important is that the image CLEARLY and MEMORABLY evokes/expresses the words "Waistcoat & Watch."
