How UNL CIG started their logo design journey
The Biofinity Project
The Biofinity Project (http://biofinity.unl.edu) provides a web repository for biodiversity and genomic data as well as bioinformatics tools. The goal of the project is to provide researchers with federated access to multiple sources of biological systems data and tools for analysis from a single web page.
The Biofinity Project seeks to provide both researchers as well as 'citizen scientists' with robust tools for cataloguing biological systems.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The target audience for the site are primarily researchers in the fields of biodiversity, bioinformatics and genetics although the site is freely available to students and the general public.
We require a logo that can be used for both print ant web. This logo will create a brand for our site as well as the research project under which is is created. The logo will appear on a redesigned version of our site and various forms of print material that we use to market to researchers.
We have envisioned the logo to be a double helix wrapped into an infinity symbol, but be as creative as you can - we want to see many options. The logo should, however, somehow incorporate a stylized double helix and possibly an infinity symbol. The logo should clearly convey the concept of bioinformatics.
Attached is a screen shot of our current data page as an example of the kinds of data that are hosted by the site. We will be redesigning this page based on the winning logo (i.e. the colors and general feel of the site will change - so don't feel that you need to keep this feel in your logo, we want something new).
We require the winning designer to submit an Adobe Illustrator file (CMYK) of the logo and any design elements included with it (any backgrounds, custom fonts etc.).
