Red River Ride
The Red River Ride is a 100 mile charity bicycle rally to raise funds for Promise Home, a self-funding orphanage project in Honduras. The ride will begin just outside of Frisco, Texas (near Dallas) proceed 50 miles north to the Red River (which is the border of Oklahoma and Texas) then return 50 miles to the south. 100% of the proceeds of this ride will support Promise Home. The ride is open to both experienced and novice riders and there will be multiple course lengths (15 miles, 30 miles, 45 miles, 60 miles and 100 miles).
Promise Home is self-funding orphanage project in El Portillo, Honduras that is being developed to house, educate, and train abused and neglected orphans from throughout the country of Honduras. The vision of Promise Home is to create an orphanage that is financially self-sufficient through agriculture and aquaculture (Tilipia farming) projects that will fund the operating costs of the orphanage. In addition these projects will provide vocational training opportunities for the orphans so that they will develop life skills that will break the cycle of poverty in which they are currently trapped.
Tell us a bit about who you are and the people you reach
The primary target audience for the Red River Ride is young (18-45), urban, suburban, socially-conscious, and physically-fit. This ride will draw the type of person that enjoys exercise but, more importantly, wants to connect their love of biking to something that supports the greater good.
In addition, some will join this ride simply to say that they have ridden to the Red River and back. The Red River represents a sort of "Mason-Dixon" line between Oklahoma and Texas. For example, the University of Texas and the Oklahoma University are perennial college football powerhouses....their annual game is branded as the "Red River Rivalry". This event plans to use the "mystique" of the Red River to make it a destination-oriented bike rally.
Finally, a third target audience for this logo will be those that simply purchase supporting material (T-shirts, etc.) but don't plan to participate in the ride. The demographics of this group will vary widely.
The Red River Ride is a critical aspect of the 2010 fundraising strategy of Promise Home. We envision this ride growing into a major event in the DFW metroplex over the next 5 years. Because of this, the logo for the Red River Ride is extremely important.
With that in mind, we have few specific requirements for the logo. We would like to encourage designers to be creative. Virtually no design elements are mandatory.
Some elements to consider:
-The dominant color of all things Honduras is "Honduras blue" (pantone 293 C). While this color is not required in the logo, it would tie nicely with the Promise Home brand (two versions of the Promise Home logo are attached).
-This is a bicycle rally/ride. A logo that communicates that (however subtly) is preferred.
-The Red River is a key aspect in the brand of the ride
-The length of the ride, 100 miles (or a "century" in the language of cycling), is a key aspect of the ride.
