The name of the project VicNode relates to it being the Victorian node of the Federal Research Data Storage Initiative (RDSI) project [more information is available at http://rdsi.uq.edu.au/.
VicNode is a project that will have a limited lifetime (approx. 2.5 years). It will build the underlying storage services that will run far into the future. This name will likely remain for the length of the project and a new name may be decided at time of the launch of the service. So we want a recognisable logo that will provide continuity for when/if the name is changed.
Though the service will be hosted at the University of Melbourne and Monash University, it should be seen as serving the whole of the Victorian research community, not just those two institutions, so stay away from anything that directly relates to one of those two institutions.
The service will be accessible via high-speed networks from Universities and research institutes in Victoria. For those not on a dedicated high-bandwidth research network, the research data will be accessible through an internet connection.
The service will provide stability into the future for research data. Researchers will have a place to put their data to meet the legislative and funding requirements for collaboration, sharing and retention.
This is a Victorian storage offering, the data will remain in Victoria with researchers controlling who has access to their data.
In the section ' Select your industry' I was only able to make one selection.. In addition we would like to add this point.... Community & Not-profit, publically funded research (Universities and other Research Institutions around Victoria).
