Over a number of years, eBuildingSupplies has become the UK's leading e-commerce site for building supplies with a uniquely deep product database and a network of fulfillment partners. The business is now migrating from a simple e-commerce site to a 'platform' to widen it's service offering, supplier base and appeal to a wider end user customer base.
The site is currently used mainly by retail customers who are doing DIY projects and home improvements as well as garden and landscaping works. The site is also used by builders and contractors who seek more specialist building materials. The site would like to ring fence and protect the existing user base whilst appealing more to the trade customers such as builders. The products sold on the website tend to be 'heavy' items like bricks, plasterboard, timber, bags of sand, lengths of timber etc. We don't focus much on tools.
Initially built on a shoestring budget, the business' success now demands a more professional corporate identity to engender greater levels of trust with internet users that the site is indeed a legitimate and trustworthy supplier. The design and use of colours should if possible make it clear that the service is a safe a trustworthy one that saves them money by sourcing building materials from trustworthy suppliers at the keenest of prices. The design will need to work extremely well used within a webpage and website, but also in email marketing campaigns and email correspondence, supplier partner portals and documentation as well as other business items such as business cards, invoices etc.

This may also help in thinking about a symbol/logo.
We have had some thoughts that a tick sign and/or a combination with a £ sign might get across the 'price comparison' message well. And the 'e' of eBuildingSupplies isn't of core importance. BUT we don't want to tie the hands or minds of designers so feel free to override these thoughts if you have good ideas. We're coming to you because you do design better than us and have better creative minds!
