cristin.merritt got their new logo design by running a design contest:
Create a logo for Centre for Virus Research (CVR) HPC Supercomputer
Check out cristin.merritt's Logo design contest…
Established in 2010, the Centre for Virus Research (CVR) represents the UK’s largest group of human and veterinary virologists. Located in the Sir Michael Stoker Building, the University of Glasgow’s dedicated home for providing a unique research environment for both young and established scientists, the overall aim of this group is to apply a holistic approach to virology. As part of their mission to carry out fundamental research on viruses and viral diseases the team has recently acquired a Cryo Transmission Electron Microscope (cryo-TEM). This microscope uses a beam of electrons to examine the structures of molecules and materials at the atomic scale. This process reveals much finer detail than even super-resolution light microscopy and represents the cutting edge science the CVR hopes to continue. As the information gathered from cryo-TEM is at a large scale the CVR team utilises High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters to process and store the information the microscope gathers. (For information about HPC clusters see: https://insidehpc.com/hpc101/intro-to-hpc-whats-a-cluster/) The team runs a series of workstations and clusters, and as part of this acqusition and major uplift we would like to create a logo for Centre for Virus Research HPC. Our hope is to reflect not only our cutting edge work in virology, but to showcase our capabilities within HPC and to demonstrate our desire to lead in this space.
Other color requirements
We would like the designers to take their colour pallet set by the University of Glagow: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/staff/brandguidelines/essentials/colourpalette/
We ask all contributors to please review the branding guidelines for the University of Glasgow and to incorporate elements (colours, font) as part of their contribution: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/staff/brandguidelines/ You can read more about cryo-electron microscopy here: https://www.chemistryworld.com/news/explainer-what-is-cryo-electron-microscopy/3008091.article Read about the acquisition of the cryo-TEM microscope, which includes photos of our facility and the microscope purchased: https://www.jeoluk.com/Portals/0/2_Press%20Release%20-%2007.02.18.pdf We have included an image of other logos we will be displayed alongside so you can consider look/feel as well as general images of HPC clusters so you can see how they look.
