Yellow Flag (Flanking excessively and nipping at other dogs during play, rushing in towards strangers, eyeing excessively, medium arousal) & Red Flag (Biting or grabbing ankles or flanks or noses of dogs or humans, high arousal) & Green Flag Expressions (Tug, Toys, Chasing and playing with other dogs Agility, Treiball, Herding Lessons) Predatory Motor Patterns often bred in herding dogs, Orient ->Eye/Point ->Stalk ->Chase->Grab Bite (sometimes)->(Kill Bite in the wild) Breed graphics with typical motor patterns highlighted. (Cattle Dog - rush in, persistent, bark Border Collie - eye & stalk, Sheltie - spin and bark, Kelpie - balance, hop up on top of backs of sheep, Australian Shepherd - bark and nip flanks Corgi - nip at heels and others) Typical temperament traits for all herding breeds: Independent, Smart, Lightening Fast Response You must control (through management & teaching) 'access to the "sheep"(ie sheep meaning an immediately, innately, and highly rewarding thing) In a human household, they can't have access to sheep so they need a job - lie down, leave it, redirect to a toy, a fabulous recall- they need daily exercise - and most importantly work and tasks that challenge them.
