SJ Magy got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
"Pet Logger" needs macOS app icon design
Check out SJ Magy's Icon or button contest…
We are soon launching a Mac OS X software application (“Pet Logger”) to record and track a variety of information about one's pet cat(s) and/or dog(s), from basic stats like age and weight to diet, exercise, medical / veterinary visit history, and cost of ownership. Target audience includes pet owners who dote on their four-legged friends as a member of the family.
What's your vision?
The job is to design a vibrant, professional-looking application icon for macOS X that conveys Pet Logger’s purpose: to record and track a variety of information about one’s pet cat(s) and/or dog(s). 1. REQUIRED: The icon should be suitable for OS X Yosemite 10.10, El Capitan 10.11, and the upcoming macOS Sierra (10.12), generally following Apple's Human Interface Guidelines (https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/Designing.html), and ideally should follow Apple’s guidance that smaller size icons should not be just a scaled-down version of their larger original (see heading "Provide the Correct Resources and Let OS X Do the Work"). 2. REQUIRED: Final deliverable files — Source (A) and Output (B): A) Fully layered and fully vector-based (non-rasterized) editable design / source files for the original artwork so I can make minor changes myself (or export at larger sizes in the future). Affinity Designer (.afdesign) preferred, but if that’s not available, then two files would be required: Adobe CS4-compatible AI (or PSD) in combination with fully-editable SVG. B) Also required as final deliverables are the output PNG files in all standard resolutions (up to 512x512@2x) with optimized smaller sizes (see Apple's table 71-1 at the link referenced in #1 above). 3. BE CREATIVE: Designer's eye, mindset, and inspiration required. Note that I do not find the “flat icon” look to be aesthetically or visually appealing, so please ensure the icon design includes some dimension & realism. Ideally each designer will provide at least two unique designs (with no more than three different color scheme options for each design) to choose from. (More than two unique designs per designer are certainly welcome and appreciated!) Just to get the creative juices flowing here are some general design elements or ideas that could be (but are not required to be) incorporated: paw print, logbook/journal/notebook, stethoscope, paw holding a writing instrument, a food menu, pet food bowl, food items (kibble, fish skeleton, chicken drumstick, slab of beef, rack of lamb, etc), etc.. Some example (self-attempted) ideas are attached, but they are generally "too busy" and/or don't meet OS X icon guidelines. I also had an idea of a stethoscope that's in and partially hanging outside of a shiny stainless steel pet food bowl with a paw icon stamped along the base, but I lack the time (and most likely, ability) to make something like that.
The attached examples and ideas referenced above are just that — ideas. Unleash your imagination! (Pardon the pun…..)
