Claront got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Love to Wake Up Icon Contest

Android app publisher. These icons are for a Simple Android Alarm Clock that is being developed and soon to be put up on Google Play.
What's your vision?
A set of seven icons for an Android app which is an Alarm Clock stressing simplicity to use rather than lots of features. People who see the icon for this app should love the icon enough to buy the app. The icons should follow the offical design specifications found at: http://developer.android.com/design/index.html http://developer.android.com/guide/…esign.html http://developer.android.com/design…phy.html#q The Simple Android Alarm Clock app will work from Android 2.1 and newer versions of Android. Launcher Icons 2 icons Launcher icons on a mobile device must be 48x48 dp. Launcher icons for display on Google Play must be 512x512 pixels. Widget Icons 3 icons The widget has two sides/buttons. The left side has icons that toggle each other. One icon depicts the alarm not set and the other icon depicts the alarm when it is set. They should be essentially the same icon, but with enough change to immediately show the user that the alarm is either set or not set. The icon for the right side should imply to the user that this is the icon/button that I touch to get into to reset the time for the alarm to go off. All three widget icons should give the look and feel of the set of icons for the app. They should be a variation of the Launcher Icons. http://developer.android.com/guide/…esign.html We hope to have 3 widget icons that will look good in a widget button with two sides where the widget button is fully transparent. See the attached file WidgetAlarmSetTransparent.png for a rough approximation of what we are looking for. The right half of the widget should have an icon that invites the user to press it to go to the next screen which will have the ability to set the alarm. Perhaps that icon will be the back side of a classic alarm clock. Status Bar Icons 2 icons Icon indicating a set alarm. Icon indicating an alarm that is going off. The two status bar icons should look similar to each other and like part of the set of icons. http://developer.android.com/guide/…s_bar.html A system status indicator icon for a notification icon on the right side of the status bar.
One possible approach to this is to give the icons the look of a classic alarm clock. The look for the two widget icons for the left side would be the front of the alarm clock with color and a button in the top middle of the clock being up to indicate the alarm is set, and then down to indicate the alarm off. The icon for the left side of the widget could be the back of the alarm clock indicating the part of the alarm clock needed to adjust the settings of the alarm.
