achtenhagen got their new icon or button by running a design contest:
Creating an amazing icon for an iPhone App!
Check out achtenhagen's Icon or button contest…
Releasify (the product) will notify users of upcoming media (albums, movies, TV shows & video games). The app is simple, minimal and fast.
What's your vision?
Please make this icon adhere to the iOS 8 design practices (it should compliment the standard apple apps nicely) For the icon, I have had 2 ideas so far: 1) A wooden box (crate) suspended by a parachute containing a music note, a film strip and game controller symbolizing a "dropped" (aka. released) item. The icon could also show a falling motion. 2) An arctic fox (face outline/contour or entire fox) would primarily fill the rounded rectangle app icon. For this icon, I like the idea of using shapes to construct the body of the fox by using visually similar colors. I believe the correct term for this would be "paper" style; as seen here: https://www.designcontest.com/blog/creative-fox-logo-collection/ The general style of the icon would be "cartoon / playful" (not clip art). I would also like for the app to either have a dark or light background as opposed to the colors blue & pink. For the colors, I'd like to have modern clean colors as seen the the icon example of the blue fox. Long drop shadows are up to you! The overall theme of the app is dark so the contrast with the neon pink and blue give it a unique look; I'd like the icon to compliment this style. My general icon packs used are those by Glyhpish (primarily the Glyphish 6,7 & 8 packs) - http://www.glyphish.com (if you are going for the first idea above).
Feel free to add your own twist to the icon, however it is important that it gives a great first impression on users viewing it in the App store; that's how you should envision it. The keyword here is minimal with attractive colors. In general I like "cool" blue colors (like the fox image) or "warm" orange/red colors like those of the Swift icon. In case you need it, the primary color scheme used in the app is: Pink: #FF00A2 Blue: #75CDF6 / #00D8FF Dark #1: #29292A Dark #2: #212121 For the file format, I would prefer an adobe illustrator file, or one that is compatible with Affinity Designer and/or Pixelmator. This is important because I would like a vector icon that I can slightly modify (change colors, size, etc..) and export in the proper format, such as .png. PS: I really love the style of the Swift (Programming language) icon by Apple.
