How Scott Wisniewski started their button or icon journey
I'm looking for a series of icons for use in a desktop application interface.
Most of the icons are stock UI idioms, except for the "main" application icon.
The application its self is a utility the automatically backups files and folders as they are modified, and then allows users to browse files, view their history, compare two versions of files / folders, and restore previous versions.
What inspires you and how do you envision the design for your business?
The main application icon. This should come in the following forms:- A 3D version, with persepective and shadows, for use on the desktop / start menu. - A flat version, for use in the task bar. - A flat version, for use in the system tray (this requires a distinctive border) - A system tray version with an "error" annotation in the bottom right corner - A system tray version with a "warning" annotation in the bottom right corner - A system tray version with an "ok" checkmark annotation in the bottom right corner - A system tray version with a "sync" / "busy" annotation in the bottom right cornerThe following other icons:- An information icon. - An error icon - A warning icon - A pause / play icon - A delete icon. This needs to be distinguished from the error icon. I like something like a circle with a line through it. - A folder icon - A "calendar view" icon. - A incon representing a "snapshot" - An "add" (plus) icon - A "remove" (minus) icon - A sync / busy icon - An hour glass icon. - A search icon. - A restore icon - Forward and backward navigation buttonsOverlays that can be applied to document / folder icons to indicate:
- A file / folder is deleted - Play - Pause - Error - Sync / Busy
The icon's should all conform to the windows vista icon style guidelines. They should be iconic, not photo realistic. Where appropriate (i.e. not in the adornments or the flat icons), the images should have perspective, be shiny, and have drop shadows. The light source should come from the front-left corner. Please drop or modify effects as necessary in the lower resolution images.
Also, I need the original source images (with all the layers), so that I can make modifications if I need to.
I don't want photo realistic images. They should be iconic.
