I'm an independent web/app developer that's worked in the web industry since 1994. I have friends in the graphic design community, but haven't find anybody that I can turn to for my own projects. I've built a handful of web and iPhone apps, and always tried to make do with graphics I pulled from the Internet or ones I created with my limited Photoshop skills. I've now realized it would be better to let the experts do their thing! I have an eye for what I like or don't like, just not the creative gene to make my own. :)
My new app is targeted at commuters and other folks that frequently look up the same map views.
The app is all about letting you pull up a handful of maps quickly, checking out the traffic situation on each, so you can decide which route to take to or from work. I need an icon that conveys the map collection idea, along with a (2/3/?) color scheme that I can leverage in the app. My tentative name for the app is Map Locker, which lends itself to an easy branding and positioning, but I'm flexible if you come up with a better "map collection" motif.
The app is utilitarian in nature, so the design need is relatively minimal. I'm primarily looking for a strong icon that will stand out in the App Store, and convey the (hopefully) unique offering of this app.
I'm attaching a screenshot of the current work-in-progress. The buttons along the top will change as I refine the experience. The user will be able to Add, Remove, and Save maps, and navigate between the different saved maps.
