3D Icon for Windows Application

I'm looking for someone to design a 3D logo for my new application, μSynth. It's a molecular simulator tool so I'm looking for something clean, simple, 3D, shadowed, with alpha (transparency), clever, related to the program initials "μS" (that's a mu symbol not a 'u'). It's optional but if you want to put some additional graphics in besides the "μS" it should be chemistry, biology, math or physics related. I'd like to try bubbly, fun and happy mixed with serious and professional. You're not required to use my crappy template (or colors), just wanted to show a reference image. The five layers are 256x256x32, 48x48x32, 32x32x32, 24x24x32, 16x16x32. remember, the image has to look decent at all the resolutions and smoking hot at the highest 256x256. thanks!

This is my first time on 99designs but if this works out I'll want to follow it up with some splash screens and web graphics later.
