The Fate of the Forester
Adrian Edd Milton
An aspiring author. Looking for further inspiration via professionally designed book covers, to compliment the stories.
It's a supernatural story about a hunt for an unknown threat, led by a forester/ranger and his posse - set in a remote (snow-capped) English village / forest during the late middle ages.
Paranormal/Supernatural horror fans. For Adults.
This is vital - I would like the design to draw heavy inspiration from three book cover designs in particular (see attached files). I particularly like these styles, layouts and arrangements and would like something similar for my own cover. Please note that the attached book cover design for 'Stick' is an optional / alternate take on my requirements. I feel the components I need to include could still work for this particular style of illustration, so if you would like to design something based upon this approach instead, please do so. I am open to seeing varying designs. As mentioned previously, the characters involved in the hunt will be armed with an array of bows (longbows, recurve bows),daggers, swords etc, but the main character (who is a forester/ranger type), should be the focus point character taking center stage. If you want to try the character facing front, or with his back turned (like the God's Hammer book cover), then either approach is fine. If facing front, I would prefer a mask (as in the book covers Twelve and The Third Section). In terms of ideal composition, it should be similar to the attached book covers - there would be the main character at the top section, and perhaps a winter forest scene at the bottom. For this bottom section, there could be a few additional characters (these would be fellow hunters that are part of the main characters team). Or, perhaps it could be sparse, with subtle hints of something sinister lurking in the forest? Basically the threat is a werewolf, but I don't want it to be too obvious that's what it is, not on the cover anyway. Oh and to follow on from the supplied images, this is the typical gear of a forester of the middle ages period: Bow Quiver, with arrows (on his back) Sword, on his side / belt Dagger, on his belt Small round shield (as seen in some of the pictures provided) Hunting horn, fixed somewhere to his side/belt again I will also include attached images and artwork to illustrate the types of gear and weaponry used by foresters during the middle ages, for some sense of historical accuracy. Please contact me if you need further clarification on any of these points before proceeding.
What to avoid
Stock imagery is fine, if fitting, otherwise illustrations could work just as well, so long as they are as realistic as possible.

And then… they selected a winner!
Marion was absolutely wonderful to work with. It was obvious from the start that she read the design brief and began developing a concept that would match it. Her illustration took my breath away, and I can't wait to see it on the cover of my book.
Along the way, they met lots of talented designers…
