Check out Effective Engineer's Book cover contest…
_The Effective Engineer_ is a book written by a software engineer for other software engineers to teach them how to be focus their time and effort on the things that matter most. Software engineers are programmers / coders. The people in my audience tend to dress casually in a shirt or t-shirt and jeans to work, and they spend their days in front of Apple Macbooks and big monitors.
What's your vision?
- Title: “The Effective Engineer: The Guide to Producing Disproportionate Results with Your Time and Effort in Software Engineering.” - Author: Edmond Lau - 6”x 9” paperback, approximately 250 pages, to be sold digitally and on Amazon Createspace. Deliverables: - Original source files for a front cover, back cover, and spine design. Requirements: - The title “The Effective Engineer” must be easily readable when cover is shrunk to a thumbnail (100px by 150px). - I want a clean and modern design. I like thin and compact typography on the cover of Lean In: http://books.google.com/books?id=y9_mxZLYiiMC&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false Here are some ideas from the book to help inspire your design: Readers will learn to: - be more effective, - get more things done, - have a bigger impact on the world with less time and energy, - make fewer mistakes by learning lessons from other engineers, - grow more and learn more. One key concept in the book is to focus your energy on activities that can be productivity multipliers. For example, if I spend 1% of my work hours training an engineer, that can multiply because that engineer might be much more productive for his or her other 99% of hours. Or if I automate something, that keeps paying off going forward. I call this concept _leverage_, like a lever that you'd use to move a large rock. I attached an image of a guy using a lever moving a large object to illustrate what I mean -- the lever acts as a multiplier for his force.
I'm pretty open to ideas of what the cover could look like, so use your creativity.
