Ryan.boucher got their new book cover by running a design contest:
New book or magazine cover wanted for Cromulent Guidebooks

Technical books tend to be dry, heavy and very hard to read. We’re making every effort to write technical books that are as easy and fun to read as we can. Our thought is that books, especially technical books will go the way music albums did after itunes. That is to say, lots of people will just buy the one or two chapters they need rather that a whole book, most of which they don’t need
What's your vision?
We would love a cover for our first book, it has the pithy title of ‘What you need to know about dates and times in computing’ ‘A Cromulent Guide’ Its going to be the first in a series of cromulent guides, so we would like the covers of the books to have a theme so they look good on our bookshelves when placed together. Like the old penguin books The feeling of a guide book should also come to mind when you look at it. It’s only A5 in size (if printed) and comes in at under 100 pages. So short enough to be read in a sitting. The cover should look good small as it'll be available on online stores and identifiable through a thumbnail. Title: What you need to know about dates and times in computing Authors: A Cromulent Guide by Mike Bain Ryan Boucher Ashley Rollke We've upload some pictures that convey some aspects of the style. The yellow-bound books look good together as a stack. We like the blue on the blue-bound book and the idea of the emblem, although it isn't strictly necessary. The O'Rielly cover is uploaded to show a consistent theme but something that isn't bland (like the blue and yellow bound books). The melted clocks from the Persistence of Memory might be useful inspiration.
