The Power of the Kitchen Table: Foodgsmic Conversations & The 10 Secret Recipes to Happiness
Kim DiGiovanni & Nick Rago
Nick & Kim fell in love over their passion for a great meal, a fantastic bottle of wine and sharing those experiences with their family and friends. Each products of New Jersey Italian families, they learned about food from watching parents and grandparents cook in the kitchen. Sundays were weekly events, complete with a pot of gravy simmering on the stove, and family members talking loudly throughout the house. This taught them early on that food was a way of bringing people together. While most people are relaxing on the beach on their honeymoon, Nick & Kim who were still feeling the profound effects of their union that took place days before, began brainstorming about how they could begin to share their passion for food and family with the world. Talking, writing, and documenting their experiences began immediately. In that moment, waist deep in warm Caribbean waters with a cool cocktail in hand in Aruba, Fat, Drunk & Fancy was born. For Nick & Kim, food is about sharing in each other’s lives, experiencing life to the fullest, rather than just getting through the day. It is the glue that binds us together, the therapist’s couch and the blank canvas of creativity all rolled into one. It’s about learning from the past, through the memories, stories and family recipes, and bringing those lessons into today’s seemingly disconnected world. With that, Nick and Kim invite and welcome those who have an open mind, a sense of adventure, to join them at their kitchen table whether virtually or in person, and share the power of a great meal and conversation. Surrounded by family and friends they promise that you will enjoy a good laugh, be entertained, and be supported so that you may feel balanced, complete and that you too can live fearlessly without regrets.
Imagine a place where you feel free from fear. Like you are limitless in possibilities, love, connection, ability, opportunity. A place where you feel safe to try new things, balanced, can indulge without apology and just be happy. Did I mention that there will be food? Delicious, delicious food. The good news is that this place does exist. It’s within this book through the stories and memories of our family recipes that have been shared from table to table. Each of them offers a lesson on how to live that happy life, a life without regret. Society and maybe even your current family have constrained to you to believe that your life is limited in love, possibility, connection, ability and freedom. Nick & Kim are here to show you that you are not. And they welcome all who want to be a part of this virtual family that they are creating to join them at the kitchen table, have a good glass of wine, and read the stories of the families that hold the key to our happiness.
Open minded, strong personalities, ages 35-60, who have a sense of adventure in travel, food and wine; appreciate a warm, safe environment, surrounded by friends and family having a good laugh and witty conversation, and who enjoy being challenged to try new things.
