We have a fully realized web site we are happy with – see http://www.idocscanada.ca. The one aspect of the website we would like improved is the image used in what we call the “Title Banner” on the Home page – the image behind the page title and 3 circular icons at the top of the page. We are currently using a stock image of a blue globe. What we are looking for from this contest is an elegant background image that will sit comfortably behind the text and icons.
Here are more details on what we are looking for:
Dimensions – the current image is 1400x800 px. There is a bit of flexibility with dimensions. We will also require a mobile version of the image featuring a significantly reduced width.
Our target customers - Our ideal customers are large businesses. We need a banner image that will impress a multinational law firm or major exporter.
Style – the first priority is to come across as thoroughly professional. I don’t like competition between the background image and foreground text/icons. Any visually interesting features should be towards the right hand side of the image to avoid competition with text and icons. As this banner will be the first of many, it needs to convey a distinct visual language that can be applied to subsequent images. And to be clear, the text and icon overlays are done in HTML. They do not need to be incorporated into the image design.
Visual Theme – our ongoing challenge with graphics is that our business does not naturally associate with anything visually interesting. I have an aversion to “business porn” (cliché stock images), but have struggled to find interesting images that feel authentic. So I am not against incorporating a good “business porn” image into a classy design. Either a design incorporating a stock photo or pure graphics could work, or a blend of both. The graphics we use in our current website (see the Home page and the Service pages) are our best attempt at finding stock images that work, but we are not particularly happy with them.
Colour - The image needs to work with our two core brand colours: blue 005EB8, orange FF9700.
Important – while this contest is focused on a single background image for the Home page, as described above, upon the successful conclusion of the contest we intend to immediately work with the winning designer on another 7- 9 banner images. These additional images will be used behind the Title Banners of the Service pages (see http://www.idocscanada.ca). So when thinking about a design, think about how the visual language can be extended over a total of 8-10 different but related banners.
I will try to be very responsive to questions and to designs that are submitted.
